Your Advocate In Serious Injury Claims

Burn Injuries Cause Emotional And Physical Pain

Representing burn victims is not something that I take lightly. I know that there are injuries you have sustained that are not visible — they are deep in your emotions and your memories. These emotional injuries might permeate your thoughts more often than you want them to. You might have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to the cause of the burns. You might have extensive medical treatment in your past and more to come. You might be scared about your future.

The Law Offices of Brent J. Rhodes in Houma, Louisiana, has more than 15 years of experience helping burn victims and their families. Through my experience as an attorney, I have found that there are ways to help you adjust and thrive. You can obtain counseling. You can undergo medical treatment. And, you can pursue compensation for your losses. Some of the things that you will go through will not be easy. It is my goal to handle your legal matters in a way that protects your rights, secures fair compensation and helps you move forward again. What Is Your Burn Injury Classification?

While most people know that burn injuries are categorized in four ways — first degree, second degree, third degree and fourth degree — most do not know the differences. To understand where you are at, consider the following:

  • A first-degree burn is fairly minor and will resolve on its own in a matter of days. This type of burn affects the first layer of skin, called the epidermis. The epidermis turns red and is painful.
  • A second-degree burn affects the second layer of skin, called the dermis. This type of burn might cause blisters or fluid. More severe second-degree burns could even look white because they are exposing deep tissue.
  • A third-degree burn affects all layers of the skin and causes severe nerve damage. This type of burn causes thick and hard skin along with purple fluid. If you have sustained a third-degree burn, you will require skin grafting and corrective plastic surgery.
  • A fourth-degree burn is the most severe type. Like a third-degree burn, all layers of the skin are affected. Additionally, the muscle tissue and sometimes bone is affected. These types of burns can be life-threatening and will also require skin grafting, corrective plastic surgery and other medical treatment.

In addition to seeking maximum compensation for your injuries, medical bills and lost wages, I will consider the full psychological impact that your injuries have on your life. I want you to have access to the resources that you need to make as full a recovery as possible.
