Watch for long-term injuries after your car accident

Whether you are driving around downtown Houma or cruising up highway 90 to New Orleans, you expect to stay safe behind the wheel. Even with your best efforts, though, you may find yourself in the middle of an automobile accident. If you have vehicle damage or a bodily injury, you may need to exercise your legal right to demand payment from an insurance company

Following a car crash, you must immediately inspect both your body and your vehicle for signs of harm. While spotting vehicle damage is usually a straightforward process, not all bodily injuries are easy to identify. In fact, you may experience long-term health consequences even after a seemingly minor vehicle collision.

Injuries to hands and feet

You use your hands and feet every day. If you injure them during a vehicle accident, your quality of life may diminish considerably. Still, to operate your vehicle, you must use your lower extremities, making them vulnerable to injury. Note, though, that wrist and joint injuries may take some time to appear. They can also last for the rest of your life. As such, if you think you have sustained an injury to your hands or feet during an automobile accident, you must seek medical attention immediately.

Injuries to your brain

Your brain controls all of your bodily functions. While doctors often categorize brain injuries by their severity, even minor ones can cause long-term health issues. Because seeking compensation for a brain injury can be challenging, you likely need a comprehensive strategy to be certain you receive adequate payment.

Injuries to your back

Back pain can have a detrimental effect on your ability to work and play. If you have a herniated or bulging disc following a car accident, you may never feel the same again. Still, with the right medical treatment, you may be able to effectively manage a long-term back injury.

While driving carefully can help you avoid car accidents, you simply cannot completely eliminate the potential of an accident on Louisiana’s roadways. If you and another motorist collide, you must watch for long-term injuries to develop.
