Your Advocate In Serious Injury Claims

Motorcyclists almost 30 times more likely to die in an accident

People in Louisiana probably know intuitively that motorcyclists are at a greater risk of serious injury or death in a collision. After all, the sheer difference in size between a motorcycle and even a small car means that the relatively unprotected motorcyclist will get the worst of it in an impact.

Moreover, even when wearing proper gear, a motorcyclist does not have the benefit of a lot of padding to protect her from the traumatic force of another moving vehicle. On a similar note, because a motorcyclist is not strapped on to her bike, she will likely get thrown off the bike in an accident and wind up hitting the road, or even another vehicle, with her body.

What may be more surprising is just how much more likely it is for a motorcyclist to die in a collision than it is for the driver or passenger of a car. Per mile driven, motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to die in an accident over those who drive more conventional passenger vehicles.

Granted that not all of these motorcycle accidents are the fault of the other driver, but many of them are. It is very easy for the driver of a vehicle to travel too fast, follow a motorcyclist too closely or to drive distracted either by their phone or by some other distraction. In some cases, accidents happen simply because drivers are not attuned to the presence of motorcyclists on the road and do not understand fully how motorcycles operate differently from cars.

A victim of a motorcycle accident, or his family, may have legal options following a serious or fatal accident. One option may be to file a personal injury or wrongful death cause of action in which victims can recover compensation.
